Simpson County Mississippi state county clerk recorded all men that county who had served. It is a great source because many do not show up on muster rolls (many rolls no longer exist). He list James and Peter Perrett, brothers, in Co. A, 6th Mississippi, Cavalry. I can only find James on a muster roll of a home guard cavalry company "Captain Yerger's Company" (he would later command a battalion or regiment of reserve cavalry I believe. James and Peter were the sons of Enoch Perrett or Perrette (there are other spellings). He was the town blacksmith in Westville, a free man of color who also owned slaves. I'mean trying to put a history together on this unusual Simpson County family, I went to school with Perretts.
