Alabama Pensions

These men are listed under the heading of slaves and appear to be mostly servants of Confederate officers and laborers at Fort Morgan; a few did serve in Infantry and Engineer units. Information on these men were found on the microfilm # 17"Negroes in the Confederate Army" and the Alabama Archives website shown below. SHAPE's position is this, Alabama recognizes them as part of their army, their service is a part of history, cannot be denied, and should be recorded.

There may be duplicate listing, variations in spelling, or other errors, but this is how the film was made.

According to this website these men applied for Alabama pensions --http://www.archives.
alabama.gov/civilwar/search.cfm
on the search page enter “slave" in the last name box will give a list of 116 names and instructions in how to order the applications.

We also took the time to list, when we could find them, the Confederate officers and units in which these slaves may have possibly been associated with (--). It was noted that on the Compiled Service Records we checked, no servant names were noted. That leads us to believe there must be other records someplace that would give more details and perhaps more names.
